Holographic Capabilities Coming to Android Phones Next Year

For all of you Android users out there, a whole new world of technological capabilities will be opening up soon. Starting in 2018, a company called RED is releasing a brand new smart phone that will allow you to see and display content in the form of a hologram called RED Hydrogen One.

RED is a company owned by billionaire Jim Jannard. A brief history lesson on Jannard, who has a thing for lenses, shows that he created the sunglass company, Oakley, and created the RED digital camera. Jannard has built quite the impressive resumé considering he dropped out of the University of Southern California.

The RED digital camera has been used by many notable directors, such as James Cameron and Ridley Scott. The phone will run off of the Android operating system and, according to Jannard, the phone can easily transition from traditional 2-dimensional content to holographic media, 3-dimensional content or interactive games — without the need for any glasses or headsets.

The new smartphone will have a display of 5.7 inches that will display both 2-D and 3-D content. If you are looking to record or take photos that will be later used for the 3-D display, an attachment will be needed for your camera. And in case you were wondering, yes, the smartphone will come with a headphone jack.

RED Hydrogen One will ship sometime in the first quarter of 2018 with two models up for sale. There will be an aluminum and a titanium model. The aluminum model will retail for $1,200 while the titanium model will run you about $1,600. When you purchase the phone, you will receive a USB-C cable and charger. The phone does come with a slot for a Micro SD card if needed as well.

Anyone who places a pre-order on the new Android phone will also recieve a “small token” from Jannard and his company. This “token” has yet to have any information released on it yet.

What do you guys think of this new smartphone? Is it a technological breakthrough or will it be a bust like the Amazon 3D fire phone and other similar models in years past? Let us know in the comments below and share with us your thoughts!
