Virtual Reality is Coming Soon to a Theater Near You

Virtual Reality (VR) has been a part of the tech world for quite a few year nows, and it is taking its next step to the silver screen. IMAX will soon be implementing VR technology to the world of movies. Well, sort of.

Starting off in New York and Los Angeles for testing, IMAX will offer a whole new experience for the consumers of movies. Consumers will be able to hear and see literally all around them once they put on a VR headset. With dates to be determined, IMAX will be putting up 5 more locations. With this comes hopes that this will become much more available around the world in the years to come.

Here’s how it will work: When you walk into one of the IMAX VR locations, you are to buy a ticket for whatever type of experience you want to enjoy, which typically last 7-10 minutes. One example is John Wick, where you can play out an experience of killing a bunch of bad guys like Keanu Reeves.

The content that IMAX is providing allows for many more technological advancements and major opportunities for content creators. Virtual Reality essentially tricks your brain to thinking that you are in a 3-D world when you really aren’t.

While you are living out the experience that you have paid for, you are equipped with many of the tools needed for your adventure. In the John Wick example, you are given a toy gun that is used as a tool by being synced up with the VR experience, so you can interact with the content. V

VR is making many technological advances that will have practical uses in every day life, such as military training and medical uses.

Do you think that VR is the next big step in technology, or just another fun toy to play with?
