Twitter User Utilizes Super Bowl to Score a Date with Tennis Star Genie Bouchard

In today’s fast paced world of likes, live streams, and retweets, staying connected to your favorite celebs and athletes isn’t hard.  In fact, sometimes we feel like we know these people as a result of the constant access they give us to their lives. For some fans, this allows them to develop a next-level bond – or love affair – with their favorite sports stars and/or actors.

During this past Sunday’s Super Bowl, tennis player Genie Bouchard saw a playful twitter interaction turn into a real-life serving match with a fan. As the Atlanta Falcons climbed out to an early double digit lead against the New England Patriots Bouchard tweeted out, “I knew Atlanta would win btw.” Her subtle brag garnished over 1000 likes and 560 retweets, but it was one particular reply tweet that stood out from the rest.

With the Atlanta Falcons in what seemed to be full control of the game, Twitter user, @punslayintwoods served up a tweet to the tennis player and her response might have been a bit of a surprise. This Twitter user asked Bouchard, “If the patriots win, we go on a date?” A bold question for multiple reasons, one being that the Patriots were down 25 points at that particular time, and secondly, that the chances of getting a response could be slim to none. Although, on this particular night with what most of us thought was a set match, Genie took her chances and agreed to the wager saying, “Sure.”

With all the odds stacked against him, TW1 (@punslayintwoods) sat back and watched as Tom Brady and the Patriots staged the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history. As the score got closer and closer Bouchard let out a few tweets that clearly gave followers a sense that she was nervous about Atlanta’s chances of hanging on. After the Pats completed their comeback, Bouchard stuck to her word and sent TW1 a tweet that read, “So…where do you live?”

We will have to wait and see if these two actually link up, but we can’t knock TW1 for trying!  Is this another potential match made via Twitter, or just a funny back and forth wager? Either way, we all learned something that night as Bouchard alluded to post game: “Never bet against Tom Brady.”
