How Snapchat’s ‘SnapMap’ Works

Everyone gets a little bit excited when a new major update comes to Snapchat.

Last night, the social media empire rolled out its newest creation called “SnapMap.” SnapMap is a tool on Snapchat that allows you to use a map of the world to see where your friends may be at the time and to see what snaps are happening around the world at that time.

To open up SnapMap, all you need to do is pinch the screen on your phone while on the camera screen. After that, you can click around on the map to pull up other stories from people wherever you clicked. What’s cool about this is that you can share stuff with the world yet still keep your personal information safe. Also on this screen, there will be little bubbles with specific events shown to the user. Events like these can range from a music festival or the live MLB game going on.

The update allows you to connect with all of your friends and see exactly where they are on the map. Of course, you do have the option to not be seen with the “Ghost” mode. This offers some more privacy for the user and has the ability to be turned on and off whenever you like. However, if you have Ghost mode turned off, your location will only be updated and tracked when you open the application.

This is a big opportunity for businesses as they could use the SnapMap to reach out to users in the form of local ads. SnapMap will most likely come with features in time, just like Snap Stories did, but that will give businesses chances to reach out and provide us with their content.

How do you guys feel about the new SnapMap feature? Will it be a bust like SnapCash or a major hit like SnapStories? Let us know in the comments below and reach out to us!
