Sean Payton Blocking Social Media Use Before Games

The New Orleans Saints finished this year’s NFL season with a losing record of 7-9 and third in their respective division. Their division rival, the Atlanta Falcons, are finishing up preparation for the biggest game of them all this Sunday, Super Bowl LI.
Sean Payton, the Saints head coach, is taking extra measures next season to remove all distractions before games including getting rid of social media.
During a recent appearance on the Tiki and Tierney show on CBS Radio, Payton mentioned that holding player’s attention during meetings is a challenge due to the constant itch to check their phones. Payton says he has adjusted his approach in keeping players attentive during meetings, but he is done with players using social media before games.
His plan to remove social media from the locker room? A scrambler.
“It’s just a simpler scrambler that just avoids the social media aspect. That will be in our locker room,” Payton said. “It’s not a violation of your freedom of nothing. But it’s the ability to two hours prior to kickoff, because I want them listening to music, but you can simply hit this little button.”
As of right now, Payton and the Saints are the only team in the NFL planning on using this technology with Payton labeling it a “Sean Payton thing.”
It’s safe to say that the Pittsburgh Steelers wish they would have thought about this before Antonio Brown’s Instagram shenanigans.
