Sandy Hook Promise Produces Powerful PSA About Gun Violence

George Kiel Dec 05

Sandy Hook Promise, a national non-profit organization founded and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School four years ago, might have the most powerful PSA of the year on its hands.

Evan, a typical student and the main character in the ad, is followed around school, as he prepares for the end of the school year. Meanwhile, another student – in the background of Evan’s scenes – indiscreetly flaunts several warning signs of violent behavior. The PSA is meant to make viewers aware of how brewing violence can be overlooked.

“We wanted to create an impactful visual to show that violence is preventable if you know the signs. Many people are unaware of that there are specific signs that people give off that can indicate a violent act is imminent,” Nicole Hockley, co-founder and managing director of Sandy Hook Promise, told CNN. Her first-grade son, Dylan, died in the Sandy Hook massacre.

Sandy Hook Promise methodically waited to unveil this PSA during the holiday season. With most people spending time with their families in the upcoming weeks, they thought it could be the perfect piece of content to spark important conversations about how to prevent violence together.

Is this the best and most impactful PSA of the year? Let us know your thoughts.
