Sacramento Kings Fine DeMarcus Cousins for Dispute with Columnist

George Kiel Dec 20

Recently, Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins confronted and cursed out the Sacramento Bee’s columnist, Andy Furillo, over a column that mentioned the arrest of Cousins’ brother.

The column, published this past weekend, was centered around an occurrence at a NYC nightclub in early December that concluded in Cousins and fellow teammate Matt Barnes being sued over an alleged assault. DeMarcus was angered by another piece of the column that referenced a separate incident at a bar in May, involving Cousins and his brother, Jaleel. The latter was arrested.

Sacramento Kings Fine DeMarcus Cousins for Tirade vs. Columnist

Today, the Kings “substantially fined” DeMarcus Cousins for his altercation with the columnist.

“The Kings have a clear set of standards of conduct expected of our entire organization. As a result of negative interactions with certain members of the media that were not corrected after verbal warnings, we have decided to impose a substantial fine,” the team said in the statement to ESPN. “If this behavior is repeated again we will be forced to consider further discipline.”

Was DeMarcus wrong in approaching the columnist for mentioning his brother?
