The Newest Phantom Camera Is Finally Here
Vision Research has finally released its most up-to-date model of its Phantom camera line. Vision has crushed it this time by offering two versions of the model — one in color and the other in monochrome.
The newest model, dubbed the “Phantom v2640“, has a full resolution of 2,048 x 1,952 pixels, which allows it to capture video at 6,600 frames per second. This almost doubles to 11,750fps at its 1080p resolution. Due to the amazing resolution, you will have to compromise for the CMOS sensor, which registers in at just 4 megapixels.
Phantom v2640 has the highest dynamic range of any of its predecessors, which is crucial due to how fast the minimum shutter speed is, which registers in at 142 nanoseconds.
This particular model of the Phantom series is made with many consumers in mind, such as scientists, researches, and engineers. The YouTube duo “Slow Mo Guys” has gained quite the following by bringing viewers content made from the slow motion cameras.
The monochrome version uses a specialized mode to crank up the frame rate to 25,030 frames per second. This is more than double the amount of frames per second offered on the color model (11,750 fps). While the higher frame rate may get you ready to whip out your wallet, keep in mind this means the resolution quality of the content produced won’t quite be up to par as the color model, as it only captures only one megapixel.
With so much data being stored, you may be wondering about the storage. Well, Vision Research is offering the camera with up to 288GB of local hard disk space. And if that’s not enough for you, the V2640 is also compatible with the company’s 1TB and 2TB CineMags.
While no price point has been set yet, it is sure to set you back. Considering this is the company’s newest model, and previous models have retailed for over $100,000, don’t expect anything too affordable. You can head over to Vision’s website for instructions on how to pre-order the Phantom V2640.
