New Camera Can Live Stream in 4k While in 360

The YI camera company out of China has just announced its newest piece of equipment: the YI 360 VR. This innovative device comes with a set of two cameras that each have 220-degree f/2.0 aspheric glass lenses. Both cameras, while opposite of each other, record simultaneously. Resulting videos from the camera will have up to 4K/30fps resolution.

Headsets such as the Oculus Rift as well as the HTC Vive are both compatible with the new YI 360 VR. The camera supports up to 60 minutes of 4k quality in a single charge. A nice little touch is that it has integrated dual-band WiFi for live streaming in 4K. Here is a checklist of the official specs of the camera:

YI 360 VR Features:

  • Two 220-degree 8 aspheric glass lenses with f/2.0 aperture
  • In-camera video stitching for up to 4K/30fps
  • PC application for 5.7K/30fps video stitching
  • Built-in 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi for live-streaming in 4K
  • Five video preview options within the app including stretched view, “little planet”, round, panoramic and dual VR view
  • Up to 60 minutes battery life recording at 4K/30fps
  • Compatible with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive VR headsets

Consumers can get a quick sneak peek at the camera’s capabilities in the video above. Users can also view five of the different modes, including “little planet”, stretched view, panoramic, round, and dual VR.

YI is selling the camera for a fairly reasonable price of $400 USD. If consumers are interested in picking one up, they will be available on Microsoft’s website, as well as the physical Microsoft Store locations where shoppers can watch a full demonstration of the camera’s capabilities.
