A Kid Takes Full Advantage of Amazon Echo’s ‘Nice Side’

Unless you have been living under a rock for the last two years, you should be pretty familiar with Amazon and its newly-developed, voice-enabled speaker, Echo. Now this isn’t just your average Bluetooth speaker that can keep your house party going with all your playlists; the Amazon Echo is a groundbreaking piece of tech that now will allow you to have voice communication, hands free, with Amazon’s newest friend, Alexa.
Alexa is your own personal assistant. She can tell you the weather, the score to the game, order you a pizza and help answer any questions you may have, all while taking up minimal space on your counter or desk. The hands-free voice command aspect of Alexa – and the Echo – is really what makes this device special. The simple “wake word” activation allows you to literally just say her name, and she is ready to help with all your needs. Now as we all know, with great strides in technology come a few hiccups along the way, whether it be the said device not doing all it is advertised to do or a software malfunction. Whatever it may be, we can rest assured that for every five steps forward in technology, we might take one baby step backwards.

The Amazon Echo proved to be no exception to that rule, as a little girl took full advantage of Alexa’s generous side. Brooke Neitzel made the ultimate backdoor deal with the Amazon device when she asked Alexa to get her a doll house and some cookies. Alexa, of course, said yes and before the family could even figure it out, Brooke had a new doll house and some cookies, all thanks to the virtual personal assistant. Eventually, the family figured out how the cookies and doll house got to the house and have since put a security code on Alexa so this won’t happen again. But if nothing else, it provided a great laugh.
With major breakthroughs in tech making our lives easier and easier by the day, what’s next? From hands-free help to a car that parks itself, are we making life easier or just becoming lazier? Is Alexa as much of an aid as we think or is she just letting us off the hook for things?
