Smash Mouth vs. Oakland Athletics: A Timeline of a Twitter Fight to Forget

Have you ever been on Twitter late at night and seen something that offends you and then you feel the need to reply to it only to end up in a multi-hour debate over relatively nothing?

The Oakland Athletics have.

Maybe you remember the song “All Star” by Smash Mouth. You don’t? I got you.

Well, those guys and the Oakland A’s Twitter account, got into a pretty depressing Twitter feud. It all started when the rock band responded to a tweet from San Francisco Chronicle writer John Shea.

And Smash Mouth called them out on it…

…and followed that up with some sound advice to the team.

Oakland wasn’t having it and focused, fully, on making this an all-out Twitter war.

Smash Mouth, being the all-stars they are, just wanted the A’s to do better at representing the Bay Area.

You would think the A’s would retract their hostility a bit with Smash Mouth explaining their criticism. The A’s hit them with the, “OR NAH!”

At this point, the entire feud is becoming super elementary and quite boring as the band just seems to brush off every jab the A’s throw. The band even admits to being surprised the team engaged in the juvenile feud.

At the end of it all, the A’s deleted their tweets and issued an apology to the band. WEAK.

Twitter is an amazing place that gives the average man or woman the opportunity to say, “Did you see Smash Mouth get into a fight with the Oakland A’s last night?” Thank you, Twitter, for my conversation starter this week.
