Google Rolls Out Twitter-like Personal News Feed

Google has done away with its former news stream, Google Now, and is rolling out a new format straight to the Google app itself. It works similar to Google Now in that it provides each user with a personalized news feed in a much more user-friendly format. With the new update, Google will provide a Twitter-like news experience, taking items from your browsing and search history and customizing a stream of content that you may find interesting.

Google hopes the news feed will take over other social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and become the go-to choice for news consumption.
The app now works with customized cards related to your interests, bringing up current stories as well as stories you may have missed in the past. At a demo in San Francisco in December, a Google product manager tested the app, and the feed included information regarding the Oakland A’s baseball team, and a Tour De France article from 10 months ago.
As users perform searches, they are given the chance to “follow” cards that may pique their interests, so they can receive similar content in the future. To get new users started, Google offers basic cards like news, sports and entertainment, in addition to filters for other interests as well.
