A Guinness World Record Holder Says Goodbye to His Career on TV

Not many people can say they’ve stuck with one job for more than a few years. Houston’s own David Ward, on the other hand, can say he’s done it for a record number of years.
A local news anchor in the Houston area at KTRK-TV has officially come to the end of his broadcasting career. After a record-setting 50 years with the same station and same market, Mr. Ward was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for having set such a mark for a TV anchor.
His infamous greeting, “Good evening, friends” resonated with viewers throughout Houston and left them feeling like they had a true friend on the other side of the television.
Everything from natural disasters to political events and even shuttle launches, Dave was there. His legacy as one of the most charismatic anchors will leave Houston missing a legendary figure in the field of journalism and broadcast.
