The Army Unleashes Insane Pics Taken Seconds Before Combat Photographer Died

The Army recently released images taken by Spc. Hilda I. Clayton, a combat photographer, seconds before she was killed in an explosion during a live-fire training exercise in Afghanistan.

Clayton, a visual information specialist assigned to the 55th Signal Company (Combat Camera), was one of five Afghan National Army soldiers who was killed when a mortar tube exploded on accident. Another one of the Afghan soldiers killed was a photojournalist.

Combat Camera soldiers’ main purpose is to accompany soldiers on deployments and document the history of combat operations.

Following her death, Clayton’s name was added to the Defense Information School Hall of Heroes at Fort Meade. The award for the winner of Combat Camera’s annual competition was also named after her.
