Starbucks’ New Ordering App is Like a Coffee on Demand

Your experience ordering coffee may now come with more satisfaction; like a barista on demand.

Starbucks previewed features of a new and improved app this week after observation of customer dissatisfaction in long lines caused by previous version of the mobile app.

MyStarbucks Barista is the new iOS app available to 1,000 people as of now, which will be made accessible, nationwide, this summer and at a later date for Android users. The feature is built to let you order with the chatbot by, for example, saying, “I want a Caramel Frappucino” to avoid standing in the long lines (the app can be used to pay for your order as well).

Surprisingly, the fun and excitement in the Starbucks experience does not stop there; it also has been announced that there will be another voice-ordering feature for Amazon Alexa. This new Amazon-installed featured lets you order with Alexa by saying, “Alexa, order my Starbucks,” which will allow you to place an order at your nearest Starbucks.

The Chief Technology officer of Starbucks, Gerri Martin-Flickinger, understands the importance of experience.

“The Starbucks experience is built on the personal connection between our barista and customer, so everything we do in our digital ecosystem must reflect that sensibility,” said Martin-Flickinger to CNN.

These new ordering features were created to be an extension of customer-to-barista interaction, so hopefully they can live up to the hype and make ordering coffee great again.
