Snapchat Introduces Group Chats and Other Creative Tools

This year has brought prime competition amongst the major social media platforms. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat have been in a no-holds brawl updating their app seemingly every month trying to top each other, even taking each other’s ideas. The latest update from Snapchat is a much needed and appreciated one, as Snapchat is giving users the ability to send group Snaps.

Groups can be created by either taking a snap or starting a chat, then selecting up to 16 users that you want to send it to. From there, the group creator can name the group. Users can basically do the same things you are able to do in an individual snap, now just with more users. You can also do other things in a group such as add members, enable notifications, or leave a group. The Snaps included in a group are available for 24 hours then disappear “forever.”  Another feature within the groups is Quick Chat, which allows you to tap on any member of the group’s name and start an individual chat.

Snapchat has also installed three new tools to help spruce up your Snaps; Scissors, Paintbrush, and Shazam. Scissors lets users cut out parts of a Snap and turn it into a sticker, which becomes available in the sticker section. Paintbrush allows users to apply artistic filters to saved photos and videos in the Memories section. Lastly, Snapchat has partnered with music identification app, Shazam, to allow users to quickly identify songs around them while sending Snaps.

Snapchat might be the baby in the social media family, but with this latest update it’s making a strong push up to head-of-household.
