Apple iPhone Could See Major Changes in 2017

The iPhone 7 released six weeks ago, so naturally we need to begin talking about what Apple has in store for consumers for next year. 2017 marks the 10-year anniversary for the beloved iPhone. Apple has not made a huge update to the iPhone since 2014, so wouldn’t it be appropriate that the 10-year anniversary bring major changes?

Many believe so.

Over the last few months, rumors have been circulating that Apple will be switching from low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) screens to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens. In normal speak, Apple wants the iPhone screens to be lighter, brighter, have better picture quality and lower power consumption. If Apple makes the switch to OLED, the iPhone face may be covered completely in glass.

Apple has not confirmed anything, so of course these are just rumors. Yet, Tai Jeng-wu, the president of Sharp, which makes the OLED panels, was presenting to students at Tatung University this past week and announced that the iPhone was moving to OLED panels.

The OLED screen possibility isn’t the only rumor circulating around the next iPhone.

Wireless charging. Boom.

Many of you might salivate at the idea of wireless charging since the headphone jack-less iPhone 7 requires you to charge your phone and play your music through the same port, making it impossible to charge your phone and listen to music through headphones. However, Apple is releasing their wireless AirPods, and Bluetooth headphones are becoming more widespread, but still, wireless charging!

According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Foxconn Technology Group is testing out wireless charging technology for the release of the 2017 iPhone. According to an anonymous source that told the Nikkei Asian Review, the wireless charging technology solely depends, “[O]n whether Foxconn can boost the yield rate to a satisfactory level later on.”

iPhone Charging Patent

So it’s not guaranteed the 2017 iPhone will have wireless charging or OLED screens, but it’s definitely something iPhone users can anticipate on future iPhones.
