The Super Bowl ads are always a huge part that viewers look forward to – the good, the bad, the ugly and the controversial. 84 Lumber, a small building supplies and lumber company based in Pennsylvania, had one of the most controversial spots, which took a stance against President Trump’s questionable and contentious immigration policies.
The ad, called “The Journey Begins,” was released as a snippet of a short film about immigration, starring a mother and her daughter’s quest to cross the border to become US citizens. The lumber company provided a link (at Journey84.com) for the public to view the heart-touching video in its entirety, since it was not cleared to air the full visual because of the debatable content. But due to the massive traffic by viewers, the site crashed.
Though the site went down for a period of time, the conversation took to Twitter as a hot topic to 84 Lumber’s gutsy approach. As of now, you can view the TV version, the extended video, and also the fully-produced short film, titled “The Entire Journey,” on Youtube (it now has roughly collected three million views). The company spent millions of dollars to be able to air the ad during the Super Bowl. The website crashing was unfortunate, but it has definitely built a door for buzz, opportunities, and of course conversations.
